Shaun White (right) won back-to-back Snowboard Superpipe Gold Medals tonight edging out Kevin Pearce who took Silver and Finland native Antti Autti. But this year it was a little different as it came down to Shaun’s 3rd and final run of the evening. In addition, both Pearce and Autti have won X-Games Gold Medals before with Pearce beating Shaun White before in the past so there was a lot of energy going into White’s final run which happened to be the last run of the event.
I think that it could have gone either way to be honest but Shaun White prevailed and becomes the first athlete in X-Games history to win back-to-back Gold’s in any sport. This year’s event featured a 22-foot superpipe (left), 4 feet higher than all years previous with hopes that it will allow for bigger, more technical tricks and bigger air!
Congratulations to Shaun White for winning his 10th X-Games Gold Medal, aligning himself with Tony Hawk for second most X-Game Gold Medals overall…and to think he’s only 22 years old.
